P is for Pirate

So this is a week at preschool where I can truly say preschool is FUN! I think the students would agree! ;)

So my cameras are both not working, so these were taken with my phone, so not great quality, and I apologize!

These uploaded in reverse order... sorry!

On Thursday we made pizzas. The students loved snack. Each child was given their own dough to squish out, I baked them for a few minutes, then they got to put their own toppings on. It was funny to see how many students thought a certain ingredient was "gross"--for some, it was sauce, some didn't want pepperoni, and a few didn't want any cheese!

Enjoying our yummy snack!
 Squishing out our pizza dough!
We did a gross motor activity where they had to "Walk the Plank." They really got into it!

The morning class with our Pirate Spy Glasses.
For math we did a "Pirate Math" activity in small groups. I showed them a number on a flashcard and they had to count out that many pirate coins into their treasure chest. When they got it right I said "Arrrr!" which was apparently the funniest thing ever. :) Love these kiddos.
 PM class enjoying snack!

 Boston making his pizza.
 Riley walking the plank.
Thanks for sharing your cute little ones with me! I love it!

Letter Hh and Bears

This week our theme was Bears and Letter Hh. We talked about when you say letter Hh's sound you can feel the hot air on your hand, and we took different pictures and words and said the names. We then decided if they started with the sound for Hh if we could feel the air on our hands.

For our bears, I decided to read and talk about different types of bears rather than just Hibernation (which is what I originally planned). We read a non-fiction book about Polar Bears on Tuesday, did the "Bear Hunt" lots, and read "Brown Bear, Brown, Bear" and "Panda Bear, Panda Bear." We talked about how different bears look different and live in different places.

We did our number 0 pages (and 1 in AM class). The number pages are taking a while to finish as they are learning the format, but soon they will be super fast for them to do. We also did several whole group counting and number recognition activities.

For letter Hh we made Hippo puppets. It's fun to see how "into" the art projects some of the students get. They are starting to recognize their own interests and talents, and I love it.

Letter Mm and Mittens

So our pictures are very slim this week!

I planned too much for this week. The students were all trying to adjust to school again, but that's okay. I had a whole retelling activity planned for the book "The Mitten" by Jan Brett that we didn't get to at all.

We did some whole group counting activities and our usual letters. The morning class made blueberry muffins.

My favorite activity for the week was our Monsters. So cute! (I told them they had to make cute, nice monsters, not mean monsters!)

Pictures

I had every intention of doing several posts, detailing all the fun we had here at preschool in December. As you can see that hasn't happened, so in the effort of sharing some of these cute pictures of our fun, here you go!

Decorating gingerbread and eating yummy cookies!

Flash back: Letter Cc cat masks, 5 senses--balloons were filled with different materials and the students were guessing what was in each.
Decorating Christmas trees, playing in snow, Polar Express

Thanks to our helpers, Rowen's mom Kimberly and Owen's mom Nicole, and also to Alexis and Riley's mom Amanda for the gingerbread cookies.

It's hard for me to believe we start back to school, but I am looking forward to getting back into our routine. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I am excited for the rest of the year!
